Therese Baptiste-Cornelis, the new Health Minister, gave an assurance on Monday that she will reform the national health care system in ways which will please the people of Trinidad and Tobago. We hope Ms Baptiste-Cornelis is aware of the challenges facing her, which have defeated or stymied every preceding Health Minister.
This is the one area that most Trinidadians want to see genuine change. If this government can impact the health care system and deliver on their promise to reorganize and improve systems to server the interests of the people them we may have a good reason to celebrate.
Too many citizens have horror stories about the failures of the health system that resulted in the loss of life of a loved one.
We don't want to hear about or see citizens waiting for days on chairs because the hospitals don't have beds. We don't want to have doctors caring about their private practice and providing less than desirable service in the hospitals
There is so much to be done and it is hoped that the management abilities of this new Minister "with cooperation" from those in authority will bring about the change that we so badly need.
I have hope, I believe in this new government and if they keep to their mantra of service to the people as first priority then we will all see the changes that we desire.
I wish the new Health Minister only success - this change was long overdue!
